Getting Ready

Welcome to the Training Day setup guide. This document outlines the essential steps you need to complete before our session, ensuring you're fully connected with the cloud-based services we'll be using—Claris Connect, Trello, QuickBooks Online, and OttoFMS. By following these clear, step-by-step instructions, you'll be well-prepared to dive into hands-on learning and make the most of our training experience.

Claris Connect

Trello

Trello is an online Kanban service that will integrate with Claris Connect and Claris FileMaker.

  • Action: Set up a Trello account and create a dedicated board. You don’t need to create any task cards. We just need the board for now.
  • Steps:
    1. Visit https://trello.com/.
    2. Log in or sign up for a new account.
    3. Create a new board.
    4. Name the board Engage2025
    5. Bookmark the board for easy access during training.

QuickBooks Online

We will integrate FileMaker with QuickBooks Online using a Sandbox account. This account lets you experiment without affecting real financial data.

Set Up Sandbox Account

  • Action: Create a QuickBooks Online Sandbox account.
  • Steps:
    1. Go to https://developer.intuit.com/.
    2. Log in or create an account.
    3. Click the My Hub drop-down menu and select Sandboxes.
    4. Click Add to create a new Sandbox account.
    5. Choose Quickbooks Online Plus
    6. When you get to your new account, bookmark this page for quick access.

Create OAuth Application

  • Action: Create an OAuth application to connect FileMaker with QuickBooks Online.
  • Steps:
    1. From your Intuit Developer account, select App Dashboard from the My Hub menu.
    2. Click the plus button to create a new app.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    4. Name the application Engage2025.
    5. When you get to Permissions or Scope choose “com.intuit.quickbooks.accounting”
    6. Finish the prompts and questions. When your done you should be on your new app.
    7. Bookmark the app dashboard page for future reference.

FileMaker Server and OttoFMS

  • Action: Prepare to access your personal FileMaker Server with OttoFMS.
  • What to Expect:
    At the start of training, you will receive your unique server address and login credentials. No other participant will have access to your server.
  • Tip:
    Although optional, reviewing OttoFMS beforehand can be beneficial. This utility offers powerful features for deployments, migrations, and webhooks.
